Sherman Arch's Iguana Farm located in French Harbor is one of the special treats for young children and families you could have. Started in the late 80's, Sherman provided a safe and protected location for them to flourish, now to over 2700 of these friendly reptiles. There are also, monkeys, turtles Tarpon, lobster and all sorts of other animals they provide protection for. It is not an excursion you set up through the cruise ship as all you need is to find a is taxi driver and mention the words “Iguana Farm”. The Red iguanas are usually the ones you may pick up so long as pet them for a minute first. The green ones are less willing. Be careful, they have very sharp claws so if you do hold them and they wiggle, put them back down as quickly and gently as possible. It is open from 8am – 4pm and can be contacted at 445-7743

HORSE RIDING |
||
| |
El Rancho Barrio Dorcas: This unforgettable and varied tour begins with a visit to the ironshore - coral reef that emerged from the ocean centuries ago, which supports a unique eco-system of cacti, palms, orchids, air plants and the graceful Gumbalimba tree. Along the way, you will see a myriad of fruit trees - almond, cashew, banana, coconut, seagrape, guava, mango, papaya, to name a few. The ride continues with a stroll through the touristic village of West End located right at the water's edge, where the street is lined with all sorts of flowering shrubs - hibiscus, mandeville, bougainvillea, oleander. The tour culminates with a walk or trot (depending on your riding ability) over a long stretch of secluded beach, with palms and pines on one hand and the crystal ocean on the other. Keep you eyes open for lizards, iguanas, and birds such as parrots, albatross, pelicans, and woodpeckers. The tour lasts between 1 1/2 to 2 hours. You may customize your tour from the aforementioned.

KAYAKING |
||
| |
Kayaking is one of the more pleasurable experiences you will have. Especially on the North shore because of the unique colors and clear views of the reef. Most resorts provide kayaks for their guest. If you are not staying at a resort you may still hire them. When kayaking be very careful of the environment. Not just taking precautions not to hit the reef in any way, but for your own safety. Roatan is an island that has varying trade winds throughout the year. This is especially troublesome when you venture outside the reef. Squalls can blow through without any notice that can cause problems to make it back to shore. It is amazing how quickly you can tire. The best advice is stay inside the reef as much as possible. If you wish to venture outside the reef understand this, the tradewinds blow from the South East. If you become exhausted the next stop is usually Belize or nowhere at all. We do not mention this to scare you but to warn you of the dangers that can occur.
